The Coyote Pups are the students from Leonard Middle School who represent RSU 34 in the First Lego League (FLL) that is hosted by Tom Bickford’s Maine Robotics.
The Coyote Pups entered the FLL for the first time four years ago and since then have strived to improve in all aspects of the competition, which requires a research project and demonstration of the Core Values of Gracious Professionalism, Coopertition(TM), and fun.
This year they made the quarterfinals at the Maine FLL Championships, held last Saturday in Augusta, and finished seventh out of 72 teams in the robot game. They also earned a trophy for second place “Best T-shirt.”
The Coyote Pups are part of the STEM staircase of RSU 34. Students are introduced to robotics as early as kindergarten and through the years, have an increasing exposure to STEM-related topics and activities. Students are invited to compete in robotics events at the middle- and high-school levels.
