CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Sugarloaf’s annual Bud Light UnCovered Series, which brings nationally known New England bands to the mountains of Maine each winter, will kick off on Saturday, Jan. 17, in the Widowmaker Lounge, with a live performance at 9 p.m. by Cold Engines.
The season-long Bud Light Uncovered Series features five performances by local and regional artists throughout the winter season free of charge, leading up to the highly anticipated Bud Light Reggae Festival in April.
Hailing from Boston’s North Shore, Cold Engines signature sound features a mash up of alternative and country music with assertive guitar chords, heartfelt vocals, and soulful jazzy horns. A newly released album, “Day Drinker” compiles who’s who of Boston’s songwriting scene with contributions by Adam Erza, Johnny Blue Horn and Steve Benson.
Cold Engines currently boasts two top-100 records according to Media Base AAA radio charts.
The Mallet Brothers, favorites of the Sugarloaf community, will take to the stage on Saturday, Jan. 31, as the UnCovered series continues.
Led by brothers Luke and Will Mallett, the band is rounded out by Brian Higgins on drums, Nick Leen on bass, Matt Mills on lead guitar, and Wally on dobro and electric guitar. The New England-based band features an infections country/rock sound that is known to crank a room full of rockers into a whiskey-fueled frenzy.
Since their 2009 inception, the band has released three full length albums and toured the country providing support for country names as big as Toby Keith, Chris Caigle, and Travis Tritt. Their touring circuit stretches from Maine to Mississippi, where they’ve appeared in front of sold out crowds at some of the finest music venues in the country, including the legendary Gruene Hall in New Braunfels TX.
This year’s series will also feature live performances from Maine’s own Spose, New York-based quartet TAUK, and vocalist Dana Fuchs.
All Bud Light UnCovered shows are 21 and older and proper ID is required at the door. Doors open at 8 p.m. for both shows; openers play at 8:30 p.m., headliners at 9:30 p.m.
