PORTLAND (AP) — Police in Portland and Westbrook are hoping the Maine State Police crime lab will be able to determine if the same gun was used in drive-by shootings in each community.

There were no injuries in either of the Sunday shootings. The locations of the shootings were less than two miles apart.

In one case a bullet damaged a home’s sprinkler system. In the other the rear window of a car was shot out.

Police in both cities are intent on identifying who fired the shots.

Westbrook Detective Sgt. John Desjardins told the Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1tF5nqK ) that it’s dangerous when people are firing rounds through houses in residential neighborhoods.
