NEWRY — Following a year of fundraising to benefit a new Bethel museum, the Ski Museum of Maine is kicking off 2015 with another fundraiser Saturday, Jan. 17, at the White Cap Lodge at Sunday River Ski Resort.

Wende Gray, vice president of the Ski Museum of Maine, said Skee Spree is scheduled to begin at noon at Sunday River, where ski history displays will be set up.

Over the past year, the Ski Museum of Maine has organized events to raise money toward a satellite museum on Main Street in Bethel. These included “fireside chats,” or hourlong presentations using PowerPoint or slide shows on the heritage and history of skiing in Maine, and the 30th annual Carter’s Last Stand at Carter’s X-C Ski Center.

“This event will showcase Maine’s rich ski history and features photos, memorabilia and historic equipment that has been acquired in large part through the generosity of private donations from the collections of longtime Maine residents,” Gray said Monday.

From noon to 4:30 p.m., a ski memorabilia display will be set up in the White Cap Lodge, consisting of artifacts, photographs and other ski-related items.

From 2 to 3 p.m., Ski Museum of Maine board member and historian Scott Andrews will present a fireside chat titled “Down-Mountain and Cross Country: 145 Years of Skiing in Maine.”

A live and silent auction will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the upper level of the White Cap Lodge, with items such as lodging and dining certificates, antique and new ski equipment, ski passes, food baskets, artisan crafts, summer golf and fishing expeditions, and snowmobile tours.
