PERU — The damaged sign at the entrance to Dirigo Elementary School won’t be repaired until the spring, Principal Charlie Swan said Wednesday.
Shortly after the school’s Christmas break began, a vehicle slid into one of the poles holding up the sign, he said.
“There was a lot of rain and snow coming down at the time, and the car, unfortunately, couldn’t stop,” Swan said. “It ended up being the sign that stopped the car.”
The sign is being held in place by bungee cords.
“We’re definitely intending to reuse the sign, even though it’s been damaged,” he said. “With all the snow and cold weather, it’s just not going to be possible to fix the sign. We’re going to have some people out there when the time is right to get the sign back into place.”
