CHESTERVILLE — Police said a local man faces nine charges for assaulting his girlfriend and others, including police, at a party at 134 Vienna Road on Thursday night.

Franklin County deputies responded at 9:30 p.m. to a report of assault at the residence. When they arrived, they encountered two couples who had been consuming alcohol and had been involved in an altercation over damage to the residence and injuries to individuals, Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said in a news release Friday.

Authorities determined that Scott Lagace, 21, of Chesterville had assaulted his girlfriend and the others at the party, he said.

Lagace became combative with Deputy Matt Brann and Cpl. Nate Bean once Brann placed him under arrest, and he refused to submit to arrest, Nichols said.

Lagace was eventually placed in the cruiser, where he banged his head repeatedly against the window, Nichols said. Concerned that he was going to hurt himself, deputies took him out and put him in leg irons, the sheriff said.

Lagace was taken by a NorthStar EMS ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington to be examined. During the trip, Lagace continued to be belligerent and confrontational, Nichols said.

Lagace was treated for minor injuries and taken to the Franklin County jail in Farmington, he said.

Brann also went to the hospital to be checked out after getting bodily fluids in his eye, he said.

Lagace was charged with felony domestic violence assault with one prior and felony assault on an officer. He was also charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief, criminal restraint, furnishing liquor to a minor, two counts of assault, refusing to submit to arrest or detention and disorderly conduct, Nichols said.

A conviction on each of the felony charges is punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

Lagace is being held at the jail without bail until he makes an appearance in court, a corrections officer said.

The cruiser was not damaged, Nichols said.
