LIVERMORE FALLS — The Maine Paper & Wood Product celebration is being organized for Aug. 29.
Preliminary ideas include having the celebration take place in Jay and Livermore Falls.
Representatives of Maine’s Paper and Heritage Museum in Livermore Falls and others are involved in organizing the event, museum Vice President Sherry Judd said Friday.
It will celebrate paper mill workers, the paper industry and wood products.
Jay is home to a Verso Paper Corp. paper mill.
In 2009, the Wausau Paper Corp. closed Otis Mill, its paper mill straddling the Jay/Livermore Falls line.
The celebration will involve area towns and the mills throughout the state.
Organizers are hoping the event will draw people from around the state and beyond, Judd said. There will be children’s activities and more, plus crafters and food vendors.
A committee meets at 6 p.m. the first Thursday of every month downstairs at Otis Ventures LLC at the Otis Falls Mill on Mill Street in Jay.
Anyone interested in being involved can call Judd at 592-1807 or Ron Chadwick at 897-2178.
