LEWISTON — A city bulldozer operator who jumped from his machine Thursday morning when it started to slide down a hill behind Lewiston High School broke his leg and was expected to have surgery.
William Andrew “Andy” Parker was taken to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and was scheduled to have surgery Friday, according to David Jones, director of Lewiston Public Works Department.
Parker drove into the area of a stormwater detention pond on the Franklin Pasture property between Lewiston High School’s football field and baseball diamond and Bartlett Street to help clear brush, Jones said.
The bulldozer was attempting to traverse a steep slope that was “frozen and icy and it just started sliding and that’s when he bailed out,” Jones said.
The machine did not roll over and was driven out of the woods and hauled away, Jones said.
