ANDOVER — Two people made it out of the water but a snowmobile was left behind after an apparent crash near Main Street.
An Androver resident reported just before 9 p.m. that a person had knocked on their door asking for help. At that point, two people were said to be in the river and Rumford fire crews were sending a cold-water unit along with paramedics.
It was not immediately clear whether the pair had gone into the Ellis River or Lone Brook. A short time after the call went out, both victims were said to be out of the water.
Early reports were that one victim was taken to an area hospital while the second declined medical treatment.
The Oxford County Sheriff’s Department was investigating later Thursday night. The Maine Warden Service was contacted to assist with the retrieval of the snowmobile.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
