Bruce Noddin is a longtime acquaintance of mine and although I think the world of him, there are some things in his recent letter to the editor (Jan. 16) that I must respond to.
First of all, I am not sure what a “progressive” Catholic is, but I am a Roman Catholic and a Republican. Republicans do care about the poor and, in fact, I have been serving breakfast at Hope Haven Gospel Mission for more than three years.
Noddin is correct that a photo ID is needed for travel, hotel and other things; however, what he doesn’t realize is that the homeless shelter I volunteer at also requires a photo ID to stay there.
Requiring a photo ID will not prohibit people from getting their basic necessities.
And for the record, poor people do vote.
