FARMINGTON — Spring road patching along Routes 2 and 4, also known as Wilton Road, started during a warmer streak last week.
The town crew will continue to patch holes along the busy highway throughout this year, Denis Castonguay, Public Works director, said.
The Maine Department of Transportation plans to work on it in 2016, he said.
The work involves grinding pavement and repaving a stretch of 4.21 miles from Franklin Memorial Hospital east to Center Bridge. About a foot and half of pavement will be lifted and a new foot and a half put down, Castonguay said.
In the meantime, the department will try to keep up with patching and filling holes, he said.
The department spent more than $20,000 last year just in patching, he said.
This portion of the state route falls within the town’s Urban Compact Zone, meaning the town is responsible for routine maintenance, plowing and patching, he said.
Last summer, the board favored delaying the state work to give a natural gas line project a chance to develop. After the board learned installation was not likely anytime soon, the board agreed in November to seek dates from MDOT for road work.
