DEAR SUN SPOTS: Could you find out who services Monitor heaters in the Auburn-Lewiston area? Ron Cote was servicing these heaters, but it appears has gone out of business. Thank you for the excellent service you provide. — Ron M. via email.
ANSWER: In addition to the answers given to this question in the Sun Spots column on Friday, Jan. 30, another reader shared this information: I use Crooked River Heating, located in Harrison, Maine, to replace the excellent work that Ron, who has retired, did for many years for me. Visit www.crookedriverheating.com or call 207-743-0911. No Name, Auburn, via email
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am again turning to Sunspots to help the veterans of the area get the recognition they so deserve. Your column has done so much in the past for us, and your having such a large readership is a big help.
We have finished entering all the names of Monument #27 for the Veterans Memorial Park, by the Great Falls in Lewiston, Maine. The list has been sent to Collette Monuments for inscription. This memorial stone will be unveiled Memorial Day Weekend in May 2015. We are now in the process of getting the names of veterans who will be on Monument #28.
If anyone knows of any veteran, living or dead, man or woman, who was in the military of any branch, active or reserve. As long as you have a DD214 or a copy of his or her Honorable Discharge to verify their service, you are eligible to have their names inscribed on our monuments. We have over 5,600 names already on our 27 memorial stones; among these are three Medal of Honor recipients.
Also, we have a special fund set up to have local icon Jerry der Boghosian, who passed away last year, honored by donating a bench to be set at the Veterans Memorial Park in his honor. Jerry was such a devoted advocate of all veterans and his fellow man, that he deserves to have his name honored in this way. So if anyone would like to contribute to Jerry D’s fund, you can send in your contribution to P.O. Box 2316, Lewiston, ME 04240.
Applications for inscriptions can be picked up at Lewiston city hall, or the Office of Veterans Affairs at 35 Westminster St., Lewiston, Maine or from Jerry DeWitt, L/A Veterans Council Chairman at Tri-County Mental Health Services, 1155 Lisbon St, Lewiston, ME 04240. Also from Normand Cote, Vice Chairman L/A Veterans Council, 11 Pineland St., Lewiston, ME 04240. Calls can be directed to 207-782-1725 or email nmcote@roadrunner.com. Thank you.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am asking Sun Spots’ readers to once again send Valentine’s cards to the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council in care of City Hall, 27 Pine St., Lewiston, ME 04240.
Last year when LYAC received the Valentine’s cards from Sun Spot readers, they were very excited and pleased. Our fire department sent them pizza for that February meeting. Public Works employees signed a card for them as well as Calvary Methodist Church. One card came from a new resident.
These wonderful teen volunteers work on civic projects and hold programs that benefit all of us and help them learn about our community. Their present project is “I love Lewiston.”
Each year some leave for college, and new ones take their place. My dream is that one of them will one day serve on our city council. Last year Luke Jenkins, an LYAC grad, ran for state representative.
They are appreciated by many, but we need to let them know we don’t take them for granted. Even a group card or note from your neighborhood or place of business would be great. Thank you. — Jeanne Raymond, Jbrayd@aol.com.
