Career Awareness 101: Instructor, Katie Paiton. Designed for those who have never been employed or have limited workforce experience, this course will provide basic employment information to instill knowledge and confidence during the job search and as an effective employee. Material will cover: the benefits of work, differences between work and career, wages, taxes and employee rights, the job search and interviewing techniques. Also learn how to create a resume, complete job applications and fill out various employment forms. This course will give you an advantage in your job search and make you more marketable to employers. Tuesdays, March 10 to March 24, 6-8 p.m. Registration: $9.

CPR/AED/First Aid: Patty Carroll, an AHA-certified CPR, AED and first aid instructor, will teach the valuable skills to assist in an emergency. Learn techniques for performing CPR on adults, children and infants and the use of an AED when available. Learn first aid techniques for emergencies while waiting for help to arrive. Embrace Adventure! Live Your Quest!: Instructor, Shari Boyce Campbell. After watching the movie, “The Way,” and learning that the Camino de Santiago was a real place, Shari felt an inner longing to make “The Way of St. James” pilgrimage. Hear about the steps she took to make a seemingly impossible dream come to life. She will also share photos and answer questions about her journey. Become inspired to plan a quest of your own. Fitness For Life: Instructor, Deb Carroll. Step aerobics and resistance exercises for cardio, tone, strength and overall fitness. Microsoft Excel Online: For those who are computer proficient but don’t have lots of time to spare. Learn the basics of Excel through online tutorials developed by instructor Nate LaClaire. Meet face-to-face on the first night, and work on online assignments at your own pace from home over the rest of the seven-week session, with email and video chat support available. Classes begin on Tuesday, March 31, from 6-8 p.m. Registration: $45.

The Power of Prevention!: Instructor, Maureen Higgins, LCSW. Cancer has impacted almost everyone and strikes fear in the hearts of many. There are ways, however, to reduce your risk of cancer. This interactive workshop will address healthy living choices, and how we can incorporate them into our lives. Maureen is the cancer health outreach educator with The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing. USM Informational Night: For nontraditional students who are planning to go back to college or who are thinking about enrolling for the first time after several years away from the classroom setting. Take a step to learn more about the University of Southern Maine and explore the programs they have to offer to adult learners. Hear more about how federal financial aid can help you pay for college, and if time allows, get started on your FAFSA.
