POLAND — Bonnie Robbins, school counselor at Bruce M. Whittier Middle School, was recently elected to the board of directors for the National School Counseling Association. Robbins started a three-year term in which she will be working with school counselors across the country and advocating for the school counseling profession.
As part of the board, Robbins was in Washington, D.C. from Jan. 28 through Feb. 1 to participate in recognizing the School Counselor of the Year. First Lady Michelle Obama hosted the celebration at the White House.
In addition to attending the celebration, Robbins visited Capitol Hill and met with the offices of Sen. Collins, Sen. King and Rep. Bruce Poliquin. The meetings provided opportunities to advocate for school counselor positions in every school as well as to encourage Congress to pass the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
Robbins has served as school counselor at Whittier Middle School since 2010. Prior to joining the staff at Whittier, she worked at Poland Community School and Fairview Elementary School in Auburn.
