AUBURN — Emma Myles, one of the recurring stars in the Netflix television series “Orange Is the New Black,” will attend the Emerge Film Festival next month in support of her film, “Child of Grace.”
The world premiere of “Child of Grace” will be 7 p.m. Friday, April 10, at the Franco Center in Lewiston.
Director Ian McCrudden and actor and producer Thomas Hildreth will also attend the premiere. The three guests will host a Q&A after the film.
Also starring in the movie is Ted Levine, who was a regular in the TV series “Monk” and played serial killer Buffalo Bill in the Academy Award winning movie “Silence of the Lambs.” Levine is not scheduled to attend the Lewiston screening.
The movie was filmed in Millinocket in 2013 and is based on the Chris Fabry novel “June Bug.” The crime thriller features a 9-year-old girl living in an RV with her father (Hildreth) when she discovers her picture on a missing child’s poster.
“At the beginning of the movie, she finds out that she’s not who she thinks she is, so it’s her whole journey to find out where she comes from, and I think audiences will really love it,” Hildreth said in an interview during filming.
Levine plays her grandfather and the town’s police chief searching for the girl, while Myles is cast as the girl’s mother.
Myles plays Leanne Taylor on the women’s prison comedy-drama TV series “Orange Is the New Black,” appearing in 31 of the 39 episodes. She has also appeared on a couple of episodes of “Law & Order: SVU.”
Hildreth, a Maine native, is active in the state’s film scene. He played the lead character in the movie “Islander,” shot in Vinalhaven, and he is planning another Maine-based film later this year. He has also appeared in TV shows such as “24” and “Numb3rs.”
Following Friday night’s Q&A, the festival will host a reception for the filmmakers, cast, crew and VIP All-Access ticket holders.
The second annual Emerge Film Festival opens Thursday, April 9, and continues through Sunday, April 12. The festival will include more than 30 films, with more than a dozen having ties to Maine.
Several ticket packages are available on the festival’s website, emergefilmfestival.org.
