PARIS — As part of the graduation requirement at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, all seniors are required to complete a “senior project.” Each senior is asked to create or participate in something that is recognizable as an effort to become a contributor to society as a whole.
Two local seniors, Sam Ross and Nick Buffington, are doing just this. Both being very patriotic and believing that America is the greatest country in the world, they decided that their project would benefit veterans in the area. Both young men feel that our veterans do not get the respect from our generation that has been earned. These two seniors want veterans to know that they are really appreciated for the sacrifices they have made to keep our freedoms.
Their plan is to raise enough money to donate to Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris, where the residents will be involved in deciding what is to be purchased. Some ideas are a new piece of furniture, a television or tablet computers.
Sam and Nick are organizing a pool tournament to be held at the Crazy 8’s Billiard Club in South Paris. It will be a single tournament with one-on-one matches with the sudden death rule.
The seniors are asking for cash donations from area companies to go toward the grand prizes for the tournament winners. They plan on having first-, second- and third-place prizes which will attract players to come compete.
The tournament will be held on March 21 and 22, 28 and 29 and if popular enough, will spill over into the next weekend. They expect the entrance fee to be between $25-$40.
