Firstly, thank you to all our members, staff and community supporters for helping Community Credit Union expand and prosper in Androscoggin County. We will embrace that growth and transformation in the financial industry, but we will never overlook the reason Community Credit Union was established and that was to serve you … our community!
The Credit Union has come a long way since its modest beginnings in 1945 as St. Pierre Credit Union, where members’ financial needs were transacted from the credit union’s treasurer’s residence until 1949 when the official office opened at 198 Lisbon Street, Lewiston.
In 1964, the Lewiston office at the intersection of Pine and Howe streets was opened and although it underwent an expansion and modernization in 1989, this became our main office and still is today.
In 1985, St. Pierre Credit Union changed its name to Community Credit Union to better reflect the membership of the credit union. More growth occurred in the mid 1990s brought about by the merger with Municipal Employees of Auburn Federal Credit Union and the opening of the 40 Stanley Street, Auburn branch in 1996.
Now, in 2015, we are so excited to open a branch in Turner!
Our newest branch is a leased space that was built by Ellis Commercial and we are excited to occupy it. A large portion of our membership already lives and works in the Turner community, so when approached to be a tenant we were excited by the opportunity. It is conveniently located at 1025 Auburn Road, just south of the Snell Hill Road intersection for members in Androscoggin County who commute up and down the Route 4 corridor.
The hours at our Turner location will directly reflect our Lewiston office hours, Monday through Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m.-noon with drive-up service opening at 7:30 a.m. A 24-hour ATM will be available for your convenience. The branch will be staffed with loan officers and member representatives eager to meet the needs of the community. Many of the staff have roots in the Turner area, so please take the opportunity to stop in the branch and say hello.
To continue our growth, the board of directors approved a plan to relocate the Pine Street, Lewiston location to a new state-of-the-art facility located at 895 Sabattus Street, Lewiston.
The board and staff feel this relocation is necessary to better serve the overall membership since we have outgrown our current building and need additional space in order to implement new products and services. The ground breaking for the new Lewiston location will be in 2016!
Warm regards,
Kerry Wood, President/CEO
