OK, call me a shameless self-promoter, but March is easily the best time to follow me on social media.
This is counterintuitive, of course, because there is absolutely nothing happening in terms of high school sports, now or in the foreseeable future.
Maybe that’s part of the appeal. I’m cantankerous, cooped-up and a little punchy. I’m experiencing most of my sports intake through television, where people say stupid things and make me wonder how they are gainfully employed.
So here I sit, beverage in one hand, smartphone in the other, and vent 140 characters at a time. It’s devoid of context and lacking in the logical development of an impassioned argument. Kind of beautiful in its simplicity, actually.
And it gets me thinking: What if every column were just a series of Tweets and one-liners? Get in, make a point, get out, and let you question my sanity.
Sure, I’ll try almost anything once …
Maine men’s basketball probably wouldn’t win Division II or III tournament right now, but Bob Walsh is right guy to end free fall.
Red Sox failure to sign ace didn’t bother me much, until I watched Justin Masterson on Sunday and realized other starters are same level.
You people who act as if Patriots had worst free-agent week ever haven’t been paying much attention past 15 years, hmm?
Unified basketball is one of best things Maine high school athletics has produced in a long, long, long, long time.
Stop panicking about start of high school baseball, softball, track, tennis and lacrosse. Y’all act like you never saw snow in March before.
There aren’t many cooler things in sports than watching team that never plays on national TV hit buzzer-beater to make NCAA tourney.
Those thankless MPA enrollment classification hearings are like election results. About half membership leaves unhappy with outcome.
America’s premier skiers are coming to Sugarloaf in little more than week. So there’s something to make this month more tolerable.
AIM Recycling USA has stepped up to sponsor Oxford 250. Good news for future of race with enormous purse and gigantic history.
Sun Belt Conference men’s basketball final score: 38-36. For heaven’s sake, kids, get out there in driveway and learn to shoot jumpers.
The words “female” and “track” don’t need to be used as qualifiers. Kate Hall has chance to be best athlete Maine has seen.
Can’t wait to see Brad Stevens go to work after Celtics go out and get a few more players. Coach of year, in my book.
Annoys me when people criticize those who bring up sports in school consolidation talks. Sports keep some kids in school, period.
After seeing fans support Bates in D3 tourney, it struck me that world would be better place if people stood by their old HS as strongly.
Good luck to Lewiston High School cheering in pursuit of its fourth consecutive New England title Saturday. That’s amazing.
Playoff fever in Portland. Red Claws won franchise record 28th game Sunday. Pirates won seventh consecutive game a night earlier.
Program still exists and stands on solid ground in America East, but I miss days when Maine baseball’s southern swing was must-follow.
Everybody having to shake everybody’s hand before playoff game is out of control. Just play and hug it out afterward, thanks.
My living room gets dusty this time of year. ESPN or CBS has guardian-angel story ready to go for every team in the tournament.
If you fill out more than one bracket, you’re lame. If you fill them out online and don’t spend $5 in office, you’re lamer.
Tournament promos scared me other day. Did my annual check of channel guide to make sure I still get TruTV.
Postseason awards perturb me sometimes, but Mr. and Miss Maine Basketball and hockey’s Travis Roy Award are done right.
Got married the night Maine won first of two NCAA hockey titles. Only bring this up because I may become great-granddad before it wins next.
Want more of this? Thursday noon would be good time to check in. Parental guidance suggested.
