EDGECOMB (AP) — An Edgecomb woman has been charged with giving her 13-year-old daughter brownies laced with marijuana.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says 49-year-old Jennifer Becker was charged Monday with furnishing marijuana and endangering the welfare of a child. She was freed on unsecured bail.

Authorities say they started investigating after the state Department of Health and Human Services’ child protection hotline got a tip, and warrants were issued after consulting with prosecutors.

Becker’s bail conditions include no contact with her daughter, who is now staying with her father.

She’s expected to appear in court next month.

Becker told WGME-TV that her daughter “has issues” and everything is “being blown out of proportion.”
