DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read your column every day. This is my first time writing to you. Do you have in your Rollodex or know of anyone in the Rumford area who works on electric recliners?

I pushed too hard on the back and broke the ties that hold the back up straight. I will look everyday for your answer. Thank you very much. — No Name in Rumford.

ANSWER: Sun Spots first called Stanley’s Furniture Mart, 207-364-3160, at 77 Congress St. in Rumford, and learned that they repair only La-Z-Boy chair-lift recliners. Then Sun Spots called Gallant’s Discount Furniture & Appliance, 207-364-4757, at Maine 120 in Roxbury, and spoke to Anna who stated that they repair furniture that has been sold in their store. You didn’t say what brand chair you have or where you bought it. If these two sources are not what you are looking for, let’s hope that someone writes to Sun Spots with other options. Read on for an option in the Lewiston/Lisbon area.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Love your column. It is always informative and encouraging. I’d like to thank Doug, an owner of Furniture Superstore in Lisbon. He truly was an angel for my husband and I. Our lift recliner stopped functioning just short of warranty. It would have taken weeks to get the proper remote and my husband needs it daily for getting up and also for sleeping at night.

Doug had someone come out the very next day with a replacement part and fixed the problem. We want him to know how grateful we are for his help and concern. Thanks Doug, Furniture Superstore and thanks Sun Spots. — Betty from Lewiston.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Does Black Mountain of Maine have any ski for free days left this season? Thank you. — Loves to ski in Maine.

ANSWER: The Chisholm Alpine Race Program will hold a “Try It Free” Day to be held at Black Mountain of Maine on Sunday, March 29. Mark Thibodeau and Tim LaVallee, a former U.S. national coach, are the coaches. This is an opportunity for kids between the ages of 8 and 18 to try the program for free. Registration is inside the main lodge between 8-9 a.m.

For young racers, the developmental group focuses on the fundamentals of racing and keeping it fun. These features are carried over into the upper level group as skiers progress and more attention is brought to technique and tactics.

For more information, call program director Thibodeau at 207-577-2551 or 207-364-8977. Black Mountain of Maine is at 39 Glover Road in Rumford.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Saturday, March 14, I ate breakfast at Daddy O’s in Oxford. While I was eating, my nephew stopped at my table on his way out. The waitress told me my meal was paid for when I went to pay. I just assumed my nephew paid. So I wrote him a thank you note. I was surprised when he called me and said he didn’t pay. So now I am assuming the family that sat at the next table did. Whoever it was, I hope you read this as I really appreciate it. Thank you very much. — No Name, No Town.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: SeniorsPlus is looking for volunteers in Oxford and Franklin counties to serve in their communities as Medicare counselors.

For those who like numbers, research, and want to make a difference in people’s lives, this is that opportunity. SeniorsPlus needs volunteers to meet with Medicare beneficiaries one-on-one to assist in Medicare enrollment, changing plans and understanding the basics of Medicare; as well as speaking to groups to help educate them about Medicare basics.

For more information or to sign up for upcoming trainings in April, contact Heather Chandel, volunteer services coordinator, by March 31 at 513-3710, or email at: hchandel@seniorsplus.org.
