TURNER —  The MSAD 52 Adult and Education Winter/Spring schedule of classes beginning the week of April 6 includes:

Map, Compass and GPS Basics: Learn the essential information and skills to use maps, compass and GPS for hiking, kayaking, and more. Students will need a compass. A hand-held GPS is optional.

Tumbling: Tiny Toy is an intro to basic mat skills in a structured and fun environment emphasizing stretching, flexibility, strength, control and fun. Beginner to Advanced classes are for cheerleaders, acrobats, gymnasts and others ages 6 to 18 who wish to enhance, improve and refine their tumbling skills.

Zumba Step: Tone and strengthen your legs and glutes with a gravity-defying blend of Zumba routines and step aerobics. Steps will be provided (if you have your own, please bring it). Bring water and wear sneakers.

Reiki II: The 2nd degree of Reiki consists of additional symbols and the training of inabsentia healing (also known as long distance or psychic healing). Students will receive their second attunement and certificate of achievement.

Brick, Block and Stone: Learn a new skill in this basic masonry class. Understand plumb level and range. Find out about different bonds and mortar mixes while building small stone walls and archways.

Grow Your Own Organic Garden: This class teaches the basics of soil science, making and using compost, principles of crop rotation and how to incorporate green manures and manage nutrients. Learn to tell the difference between cultivated plants and weeds, basic weed control strategies and common insect pests and methods of natural insect control.

Watercolor Paint Party: Students will receive step-by-step instructions and complete a 5 x 7 painting in one night. No experience is required and all supplies are included.

I’m Beginning to Stay Home Alone – Leeds: This is a two-session introduction for 8- to11-year-olds to safety issues they could encounter as they begin to stay home alone for short periods of time. Students take home an activity booklet with parent notes.

Wire-Wrapped Sea Glass Earrings: Learn basic wire-wrapping techniques to make matching earrings using pre-drilled cultured sea glass available in a variety of colors. Workshop fee includes all materials needed to make one pair of earrings.

Middle Eastern/Belly Dance: Learn the basics of the ancient art form of Belly Dance. No prior experience needed, open to all ages.

Also available through the MSAD 52 Adult and Community Education is a Bates Baseball Clinic, to be held on Sunday, April 12. There will be two sessions, one for 8- to 10-year-olds and another for those 11 to 12 years old. Students will learn skills from coaches from Bates College. Note that only the first 20 to enroll in each session will be accepted.

The Adult Ed office will also present “Mindful Eating,” a one-night class to be held Thursday, April 16. Explore what mindful eating means and how one can apply it successfully. Learn how to use a hunger scale, set S.M.A.R.T. goals and incorporate mindful eating practices.
