LISBON — Students at Lisbon’s Philip W. Sugg Middle School will participate in the annual Poetry Contest supported by district librarian, Katy Dodge, and library assistant, Tim Gaudet, for Poetry Month.
The program will run from Monday, April 13, through Friday, April 17. Library windows at the 4 Sugg Drive campus will display the title, author and first line of 30 different poems.
Students are required to research and write the poem’s second line on their individual entry form for the contest. The poems include old and new classic pieces by Maya Angelou, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Shell Silverstein and Ogden Nash in addition to some famous lyrics from songs about the Civil War and the wild, wild West.
Poetry contest winners will be drawn after spring vacation on Monday, April 27. The winners will celebrate with a pizza party on Wednesday, April 29.
