1930 – 2015
RUMFORD — Erene T. Gautreau, 85, died on Saturday, April 4, at the Rumford Hospital. He was a resident of Oak Street in Rumford.
Born in Mexico on March 25, 1930, he was a son of William and Rose Marie (Chabot) Gautreau. He attended Rumford schools and worked for Boise Cascade in the hardwood bleachery deptartment.
Erene was a member of LaParreseux Snowshoe Club; he was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed camp at South Arm. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, reading and making puzzles.
He was married in Mexico, on June 29, 1957, to Evelyn Merchant of Rumford who survives him. Other survivors include three sons, Matthew of Westbrook, Theodore of Portland and Timothy and his wife, Shelly, of New York; two daughters, Kimberly Gautreau Peare and her husband, Dan, of Andover and Claudia Bernheisel of Portland; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alfreda Bernard of Rumford.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Theresa Gautreau; three brothers, William, Chester and Baby George; three sisters, Lorraine Arsenault, Marjorie Coulombe and Geraldine Lyons.
