PORTLAND (AP) — An Amtrak train has derailed a couple of miles from its station in Portland, Maine.

The Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority says no one was hurt when Amtrak’s Downeaster went off the rails Tuesday.

Executive Director Patricia Quinn says 41 people were onboard when the locomotive derailed shortly after the Boston-bound train left the Portland station. The passenger cars were hauled back to the Portland Transportation Center. Track owner PanAm Railways replaced a section of rail.

The Downeaster runs between Boston and Brunswick. Stops include picturesque Exeter, N.H., and Freeport, where L.L. Bean is located.

The derailment led to the cancellations of several trains. Normal service is expected Wednesday.

Quinn says the locomotive was traveling about 20 mph when it derailed. Trains 686 and 687 were canceled. Train 685 was delayed leaving Boston.
