You know it’s nearly summer when we can start talking mini golf.
Tabers will unveil a new, fully redesigned 18-hole miniature golf range at the end of the month, bringing that 1955 course into 2015.
“It is a massive overhaul,” owner Dan Hargreaves said. “We’ve gone to a much more in-tune-with-the-land golf course. There’s undulations in the green. There’s a 15-foot waterfall with a meandering stream that runs through the course to a lower pond that has a fountain.”
There’s also a practice green and a new 19th hole — sink that putt, a buzzer goes off and the next game is free.
It’s tentatively set to open Wednesday, April 29.
“The old course had served its purpose well for all these years,” Hargreaves said. “We thought to keep up with all the changes happening in Lewiston-Auburn that we should also change with it.”
So, warm up your mini swing. And, in the meantime, Tabers restaurant, ice cream stand and driving range on Lake Shore Drive in Auburn all opened for the season on Thursday.
Something coming to Bethel
CBRE/The Boulos Co. announced the sale this week of about an acre of land next to the Rite Aid at 36 Mayville Road in Bethel.
It was sold for $325,000 to HRES Bethel LLC by Judith Barker.
CBRE broker Chris Paszyc said there are development plans but nothing he’s able to comment on yet.
A potential clue: According to Corporation Wiki, HRES Bethel LLC is a limited liability company formed in Florida earlier this year, affiliated with Hunt Real Estate Services Inc. On its website, Hunt says it has worked with Family Dollar, Walgreens, Starbucks and others.

Get out your tugboat best
The Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Not Your Normal Formal event/fundraiser on May 1 with a “Sailing Into The Sunset” theme this year in honor of retiring President Chip Morrison.
What to wear to embody that theme?
Think cruise-ship casual or cruise-ship formal, said Maureen Aube, operations manager at the chamber. Or think Hawaiian shirts and shorts. Or a kayak-ready outfit with life vest.
“If you prefer a yacht or regatta, you could wear your white regatta clothes,” she said. “Tugboat wear, if you have it.”
Clearly, it’s open to many and any nautical interpretation.
The event starts at the Ramada Inn at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour, hors d’oeuvres, music and a silent auction. Morrison will kick off the live auction at 8 p.m. The evening is a fundraiser for the chamber to supplement dues, Aube said.
It started off with 200 tickets — one $100 ticket is good for two people — and on Thursday, the chamber had 18 left.
