I keep hearing about helping the middle class from candidates on the campaign trail. I don’t think they know how many people are low income, especially here in Maine. There are more people living paycheck to paycheck than they realize.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that there are approximately 90 million people out of work in this country right now. Several million simply stopped looking because there are no jobs that fit their needs. They are not always counted as being unemployed.
So, please, enough with the middle class bit. I will vote for whomever will help the low income and the unemployed in Maine — help the people who have fallen through the cracks and who are no longer important enough to count.
Instead of spending a billion dollars on a campaign run on the same old political crap — as Hillary Clinton has mentioned it could cost for her presidential campaign — spend it on people who need the help.
And, at the federal government level, instead of sending billions of dollars (that the U.S. Treasury doesn’t have) to other countries, help people here first.
