LEWISTON — A planned Twin Cities country festival will wait until 2016, according to the promoter.

Mike Shea said promoters simply didn’t have enough time to book the acts they wanted for a summer 2015 show.

“What we do not want is to rush and book an act that will not bring in the numbers we believe either town deserves,” Shea said Friday. “The profit wouldn’t be there to make it successful and our goal is to make it extremely successful, for the towns and for the concert experience.”

Instead, Shea said he and partners L-A Harley-Davidson and radio station 99.9 The Wolf will take the time to plan the event more carefully.

“It will give us more opportunities to book great acts as well as to make sure that we meet all the requirements for the town, whichever one we choose,” Shea said. “We just want to make it a successful event.”

Shea began talking about the event in January, saying he wanted to bring at least one “Class A” and several “Class B” bands to the area for the show. A Class A band could be a popular country act such as Lady Antebellum or Kenny Chesney who could draw a big crowd.

He hoped to bring in at last 12,000 spectators and planned to scheduled on either July 25 and 26 or Aug. 1 and 2.

Shea said the festival was going to be either downtown in Lewiston’s Simard-Payne Memorial Park or at the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport.

Shea said both venues are still possible. Delaying gives promoters more time to make sure they are meeting city, state and federal guidelines.
