LIVERMORE FALLS — Residents of Livermore, Jay and Livermore Falls will go to the polls from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, to act on a proposed $18.6 million 2015-16 operating budget for RSU 73 and will decide whether to fund an elevator and new bleachers.

A smattering of voters approved the three questions at a district-wide vote on April 7.

The proposed operating budget is about $241,000 less than the current year’s. That was the result of eliminating six teaching positions. The cuts come from six retirements.

Superintendent Kenneth Healey said the educational program will remain the same, although some classes may have a few more students.

The proposed elevator for Spruce Mountain High School to meet handicapped-accessibility requirements would cost $275,000; handicapped-accessible bleachers for Griffin Field would cost $108,000.

Healey said that if more money is needed for the bleachers, the board will look into a short-term lease/purchase agreement.

If the budget is voted down, the district’s administrative team will determine the next steps.

Healey said, via email, that development of the budget was a cooperative enterprise that took into consideration maintenance of the district’s educational programs as well as verbal feedback from residents and the economic climate of the area.

“We hope the budget passes, but if community members still have questions, they can contact the superintendent’s office for clarification,” Healey said. He can be reached at 897-6722 or khealey@rsu73.org.
