RUMFORD — Catherine Jane Nadeau, 70, of Somerset Street passed away on Tuesday, April 28, at Rumford Hospital following a brief illness with her husband, Bob, at her side.

She was born in Rumford on Jan. 4, 1945, a daughter of Henry and Yvonne (Richard) McCafferty. She was educated in Mexico schools.

She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Nadeau, on Feb. 24, 1962; together, they celebrated 53 years of marriage.

She was employed for several years at Bob’s Quick Stop, and she also worked for Dr. Garbarini for 10 years.

Catherine loved wood carving, sewing, knitting, crocheting and spending time outdoors. She also loved her family trips to Disney and Arizona, and studying family genealogy.

Surviving are her husband, Robert A. Nadeau of Rumford; a son, Robert A. Nadeau Jr. and wife, Diana “Dee,” of Andover; a daughter, Elizabeth S. Nadeau and husband, Brad, of Mexico; three grandchildren, Brandon Nadeau of Andover, Nicole Nadeau of Rumford and Hunter Nadeau of Rumford; and one great-grandchild, Abel McLain.

She was predeceased by her parents; and two brothers, Hugh and Leroy McCafferty.
