Fenn-Ross Cup Heritage Scramble

POLAND SPRING — Bagpipe music will echo through the hills of Western Maine as golfers are called to the tee in the annual Fenn-Ross Heritage Scramble Cup golf tournament at the Poland Spring Resort on Sunday, May 17.

The tournament is unique due to its adherence to an historical theme and the manner in which that theme is supported by actual events in the tournament. The tournament is conducted by the Poland Spring Preservation Society to raise funds for the continuing maintenance and repair of its buildings and grounds, including the All Souls Chapel and Maine State Building.

Prizes will be awarded for successful scramble teams, and for the male and female contestant judged most colorful and true to golf dress typical for Poland Spring Resort’s golden era.

There are prizes for the longest drive on the first hole, using a hickory shafted driver, and closest to the hole on No. 6 with a hickory shafted iron. Original hickory shafted clubs are provided for the special events. The winning foursome will have their names inscribed on the large Fenn-Ross trophy on display in the clubhouse and also receive smaller, personal facsimiles of that trophy to memorialize their victory.

Entry forms are available at the Poland Spring Resort golf course pro shop and online at Polandspringps.org. The entry fee is $50 per person, which includes golf with cart, tee gifts, prizes, continental breakfast, and dinner. Contestants without a full team will be grouped in foursomes by tournament officials. Contestants do not need to have a USGA GHIN handicap to participate. For more information, call the Pro Shop at 207-998-6002.
