LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen on Tuesday unanimously approved the purchase of a new sewer pump for $38,036 to replace a broken one on Souther Road.

Sewer Superintendent Greg Givens said the town highway crew last week discovered both pumps had failed. One is working again and the other has been removed and will be replaced by Stevens Electric of Monmouth.

In other matters, Town Manager Kristal Flagg said Androscoggin Land Trust plans to meet with Jay residents at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 7, for an overview of public properties.

Flagg also said the town is prepared to take funds from the contingency account to help pay for the annual Memorial Day parade. Veteran Don Simoneau is gathering donations for the event.

Also Tuesday:

* Selectmen approved the town’s annual History Night for May 22 and waived the $25 amusement permit fee.

* The board heard from two residents that a home at 16 Knapp St. appears to have safety and health issues. Flagg said the health officer has visited the site and appropriate actions are being taken.

* Selectmen met in three closed sessions to discuss a personnel matter, a poverty abatement and labor negotiations. No results were announced.

The next regular board meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at the Town Office.
