CARTHAGE — A local man faces charges for driving 108 mph and eluding police during a 2½-mile chase Thursday night on Route 142, Maine State Police Trooper Randy Hall said.

Jacob E. Jackson, 23, was driving a Ford Focus north near Carthage Flats about 9:15 p.m. when Hall clocked him at a high speed and gave chase, he said. Jackson did not stop for about 2½ miles and almost lost control of the car twice in a residential area post for 35 mph, the trooper said. There were two passengers in the car, he said.

Jackson eventually stopped the car and a breath test revealed his blood alcohol level was 0.19 percent, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent, Hall said.

Jackson was arrested on charges of eluding an officer, driving under the influence, criminal speeding and driving without a license, Hall said.

Jackson was taken to the Franklin County Detention Center where he posted $500 cash bail and was released. He is scheduled to appear in court June 26, Hall said.
