BRIDGTON — Loon Echo Land Trust will host a wildflower hike on the Southwest Ridge Trail at Pleasant Mountain at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 23.
The hike will take four to five hours and will be moderately difficult. Hikers will travel to the southwest summit where wild columbines, lady’s slippers and budding oak trees grow.
Peg Nation, LELT volunteer and in-house flower expert, will be the special guest.
Hikers should meet Loon Echo staff at the Denmark Road Trailhead, about three miles from Route 160 in Denmark village opposite Fire Lane 78 (Spiked Ridge Road) at 8:45 am.
This hike requires hiking boots, layers of clothing, water and snacks. Bug spray is recommended due to the likelihood of ticks and black flies. Hikers should also be aware of the high tree pollen count.
Hikers are encouraged to bring cameras and binoculars for birdwatching and snapping photos of the views.
All Loon Echo hikes are free, and donations are welcome.
