AUBURN — Edward Little was down 2-1 at the half before exploding with six goals in the second half to finish off Cony with 7-5 victory in a girls’ lacrosse game Tuesday.
This was the Red Eddies’ (1-4) first victory of the season.
Fran Harris and Morgan Knowlton each contributed two goals. Danielle Gagne, Grace McBride and Savannah Shaw rounded out the scoring with 1 goal apiece for the Red Eddies. Kaylee Jipson picked up an assist for the day.
Cony’s Becca Coniff and Selena Garfide each scored a pair of goals and teammate Erin Alexander added one.
Messalonskee 10, Lewiston 9
WATERVILLE — Lauren Pickett scored the game-winning goal in overtime, lifting Messalonskee to a 10-9 victory in a girls’ lacrosse game Tuesday.
Pickett scored four goals and Lewiston goalie Paige Fontaine made nine saves.
The Blue Devils came back from a 4-3 halftime deficit to take the game into overtime. Lewiston scored first on a goal by Kristina Blais. She also scored four goals.
Softball
Bangor 12, Mt. Blue 0
BANGOR — Bangor jumped on Mt. Blue starting pitcher Caitlin Kane, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first inning, which included a two-run homer by Skylar Cassom, and never looked back on its way to a 12-0 win over the Cougars in a softball game Tuesday.
Emily Gilmore also homered for the Rams, hitting a solo blast in the second inning, and center fielder Megan Connor knocked in three runs on a double and single. First baseman Addie Brinkman had the lone Cougar hit with a single.
Cassom, the winning pitcher, was in control from the beginning of the game, allowing just the one hit, walking none and striking out 11 Mt. Blue hitters. The Rams move to 8-1 on the season and the Cougars fall to 3-5.
College baseball
BC 12, UMaine 0
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The University of Maine baseball team dropped a tough 12-0 decision at Boston College on Tuesday afternoon. Maine falls to 22-25 on the season, while Boston College improves to 26-25 overall.
Boston College struck first with a home run by Blake Butera in the bottom of the first inning. The game remained 1-0 until the Eagles scored nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Butera had a big three run double in the inning. Nick Sciortino had a pair of RBI singles in the inning, while Michael Strem, Donovan Casey, Johnny Adams and Jake Palomaki all drove home runs in the inning with hits.
