ROXBURY — The Roxbury ATV Riders Club will host a Basic and Advanced Erosion Control Practices course for contractors, ATV clubs and snowmobile clubs this month.
It will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at the Town Office, 1095 Roxbury Road. The cost is $50 per person. At least 15 people are needed. The course is also open to the public.
Club President Michael Worthley said the course is necessary for those wanting to become certified in erosion control practices by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.
Topics include the need for erosion control and how erosion happens, and proper selection, installation and maintenance of practices such as sediment barriers, mulch, vegetative stabilization, riprap and more.
Worthley said the course is of primary interest to contractors, but could also be helpful to code enforcement officers, consultants, engineers and public works employees.
“Contractors have to have it, but it’s a good thing for ATVers and snowmobile clubs to learn,” he said, “because if an ATV club is out doing work on a trail with their own Kubotas and not trained in erosion control, they could get fined.”
Participants are asked to send checks before May 25 to Roxbury ATV Riders Club, P.O. Box 196, Roxbury, ME 04275. After May 25, the cost will be $60.
“This is a great landowner relations tool, so sign up now,” Worthley said.
