AUGUSTA (AP) — The final day to apply for a spot in Maine’s annual moose lottery is arriving for the state’s hunters.
The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife is planning to issue 2,815 moose permits, the fewest in 12 years. Hunters who want a slot in the lottery have to apply online by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday. The state will hold the drawing on June 13 in Bethel, Maine, and post results online. The drawing is part of the three-day Bethel Maine Moose Festival that begins on June 12.
Last year 53,577 people applied for one of the permits.
