OXFORD — Glendon H. “Babe” Flanigan, 84, of Oxford, passed away during the early morning hours of Monday, May 11.
Born Oct. 15, 1930, in Mapleton, he was one of nine children of Arthur and Julia Young Flanigan. The family moved to Casco in 1945, and he graduated from Casco High School in 1948.
He was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.
He was formerly married to Gail (Royce) Flanigan from 1958 until her death in 1999. He then married Velma (Small) Flanigan on Nov. 29, 2002, who survives him.
Babe worked at Dielectric in Raymond, before establishing Unique Machine Inc. in South Casco in 1978 with his brother and nephew.
Babe was extremely active in Casco town government, the Casco Fire Department and the Casco Days celebrations. He coached many generations of children in baseball and T-ball. He truly enjoyed all sports and was an avid Red Sox fan.
He loved to spend his free time gardening, bowling, and fishing. He spent the last 13 winters in Florida, golfing rather than plowing and shoveling snow. He and Velma attended South Paris Baptist Church.
Babe is also survived by his three sons, Steven and wife, Gigi, of Casco, Peter and wife, Sherry, of Naples, and Kurt and wife, Brenda, of Poland; his daughter, Karen of Casco; his stepchildren, Verna and James Wheeler of Madison Heights, Va., Sherman Small of Bethel, and Samuel and Jenifer Small of West Paris. Babe had 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
