WOODSTOCK — Residents overwhelmingly voted Tuesday evening to authorize the Board of Selectmen to sell the Fire Department’s 1987 Pierce-Arrow firetruck.
The truck has been out of commission for several months because a pump test revealed problems that would have cost at least $48,000 to fix.
Town Manager Vern Maxfield said voter approval is required to sell items valued at $3,000 or more.
One resident asked Maxfield whether the money would be put toward the 2016 Freightliner pumper-tanker firetruck that residents authorized the selectmen to purchase.
“That’s the plan, yes,” Maxfield said. “We need authorization from the people before we can take the next step.”
The resident later asked what the Fire Department was going to ask for the truck.
Fire Chief Kyle Hopps said it was purchased used from South Berwick for $35,000, and “that was when the truck was working.”
“We’re really not sure what we’ll be able to get for the truck,” he said. “We’re hoping for a good amount to put toward the new firetruck.”
Chairman Ron Deegan said selectmen would figure out what firetrucks similar to the Pierce-Arrow are worth.
In other business, Deputy Clerk Rose Fraser said residents voted in favor of allowing the town to raise and appropriate $18,000 to close the front of the town’s pole shed, install four overhead doors and add a concrete slab floor.
At a previous selectmen meeting, Maxfield said the shed had been burglarized and the overhead door would make it more secure.
