AUGUSTA (AP) — An Augusta man who used a steak knife to slice another man’s jugular vein last September has pleaded guilty to elevated aggravated assault in Kennebec Superior Court.

The Kennebec Journal reported (http://bit.ly/1F5iZew ) Jason Boucher was sentenced to four years in prison Thursday, with the remainder of the 10-year sentence suspended.

Police say the 34-year-old followed a former girlfriend in September 2014 and confronted her about her relationship with Jonathan Beaulieu, who was with her.

The woman said Boucher ran up to the passenger side of her vehicle with a steak knife and repeatedly attacked Beaulieu.

The 43-year-old victim underwent emergency surgery for a laceration to his jugular vein, chest and left forearm.

Boucher’s attorney said her client and the woman have a child together.
