NORWAY — Town Manager David Holt told selectmen Thursday night that rebuilding lower Main Street will begin next week.
The work is expected to cause traffic delays throughout the summer. Holt told the board the contractor believes the work can be done by Labor Day.
The project includes reconstructing the street and improving drainage and sidewalks. Utility companies have been setting new poles.
Holt said repaving downtown Main Street will begin about June 1. That work, which includes re-striping, is expected to cause temporary traffic delays.
Also Thursday, selectmen awarded the Danforth Street reconstruction project to low bidder Bedard Excavation for $159,800. The five bids ranged from $159,000 to $293,600. The project includes rebuilding some sidewalks.
In other news, Code Enforcement Officer Joelle Corey-Whitman met with the board to discuss proposed changes to the Shoreland Zoning Ordinance and Building Code. The changes will be presented for adoption at the annual town meeting in June.
The Building Code changes address issues that include better enforcement of building maintenance problems and the use of recreational vehicles on private land.
The Shoreland Zoning Ordinance changes include tightening rules and improving language.
