BRUNSWICK — A 21-year-old Bowdoin College student was arrested in Topsham early Sunday morning and charged with Class A felony gross sexual assault, a crime that allegedly took place earlier in the night on the Bowdoin campus.

Logan Taylor, whose address is listed as Brunswick, remained in Cumberland County Jail Sunday afternoon, held on $1,000 cash bail.

Brunswick police were called to the area of the Androscoggin Swinging Bridge just after 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Sgt. Paul Hansen said Monday. Bowdoin security guards reported that a 20-year-old female student had called them for a ride, and was worried about a friend who had been with her but who left before authorities arrived.

But when police arrived at the scene, “she alleged that this acquaintance of hers had raped her earlier in the night” Hansen said.

Brunswick officers, along with police dogs from Freeport and Topsham, searched for several hours before Topsham police found Taylor just before 5 a.m. near Granite Hill Road in Topsham.

The alleged victim was treated at a local hospital, Hansen said.

Reached Monday for comment, Bowdoin College spokesman Doug Cook said in an email, “At the moment, these charges are under investigation by local law enforcement. Bowdoin will continue to assist police and focus on the safety and well being of our students and other members of the college community.”

Taylor is scheduled to appear in Portland Superior Court on July 21.
