WOODSTOCK — Firefighters from several towns on Wednesday were battling a wildfire along the side of Moody Mountain.
A Woodstock firefighter said crews were first sent out to the area just after 3 p.m. when smoke was seen rising in the area of Bucks Ledge.
Firefighters battled the blaze for hours, both on the ground and from the air using a Maine Forest Service helicopter to drop water on the flames.
By nightfall, crews remained at the scene. It was not known whether flames had reached any structures.
According to online sources, Moody Mountain is between North Woodstock, Kimball Hill and Oak Hill, and is near Chamberlain Mountain and Bryant Pond.
Bucks Ledge, North Pond and Day’s Ridge are also in the Moody Mountain area.
