DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Volunteer Services Department for Central Maine Medical Center, Rumford Hospital and Bridgton Hospital is looking for crafty community members who would be interested in making and donating trauma dolls and boo boo bunnies for our pediatric patients in the Emergency Room, Lab and outpatient care areas. If you are not crafty but still want to help out, we can always use donations of fabric and terry washcloths. Interested people are welcome to contact Volunteer Director Susan Hedrich at 207-795-2472 or email hedricsu@cmhc.org to request the pattern and directions for both items. Thank you.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I hope that you can help me as you have helped many people. I would like to know why Alison Sweeney is not on Days of Our Lives anymore as Sammy Brady. I have missed her as have many people. I appreciate this very much. Good luck. — Helena in Dixfield.
ANSWER: In published reports, Alison Sweeney states that her main reason for leaving the soap opera is to spend more time with her family. She has been and will continue to direct General Hospital and host The Biggest Loser.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Would the person who bought the rotisserie on West View Drive in Lewiston come back to get the screwer you left behind? Can’t rotisserie without it. Thank you.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for the valuable and indispensable service you provide. The town of Turner no longer accepts motor oil at the Turner landfill/dump/recycling facility. It has been a service we had come to depend on to dispose of used motor oil responsibly. Does anyone know of a place where used motor oil can be safely and ecologically disposed of in the area? — Gerald L., Turner.
ANSWER: Sun Spots called the Turner town office at 207-225-3414 to find out if they have another location in Turner that you can bring your used motor oil. They don’t, but the Maine Oil Recovery Program has a list of businesses throughout Maine that accept used motor oil. Sun Spots noticed that the six places listed for Lewiston-Auburn are auto shops. You can call MOCP at 207-287-2651 to find out the names of the businesses that are part of their program.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: You are very good at finding information for people, and now I need your help. I used to buy two batteries from Radio Shack for a mechanical device at home. Now both stores have left the area, and I can’t get the batteries anymore. Could you possibly find out what Radio Shack did with all the batteries that were in their stores. Did they sell them to another store? Sincerely, No Name in Lewiston.
ANSWER: As of March 15, there were still 12 Radio Shack stores in Maine including one at 1064 Brighton Ave. in Portland and one at 251 U.S. Route 1 in Falmouth. Sun Spots called the Radio Shack store on Brighton Ave. at 207-773-7071 and they are indeed open and do sell batteries. If you ever shop online, Amazon.com has a lot of different types of Radio Shack-brand batteries advertised for sale.
