FARMINGTON — Farmington Elks Lodge #2430 recently treated members of the Franklin County Youth Bowling League to a spaghetti dinner.
They also held an award ceremony for the young bowlers, ages 5- 19. The league bowls on Saturday mornings at Meadow Lanes in Wilton.
Elk member Ron Ridley and his wife, Sherry, have led the program for the past 20 years.
The lodge was presented with a plaque for all their work in support of the bowling program for 30-plus years. The plaque was given to Exalted Ruler Les Brown and Ed Podgurski, youth activities co-chair, by Ridley.
About 72 bowlers and their parents attended, Brown said.
Bruce Hutchinson, Drug Awareness Chairman, and Brown gave out drug awareness kits from the Grand Lodge Drug Awareness Program.
Earlier in May, some local Elk members attended a three-day state Elks Association Convention held in Bangor.
Those attending included Les and Sue Brown, Duane and Donna Clark, Dick and Robin Bragg, Claris and Roberta Ranger and Phil O’Brien.
The Farmington Lodge received two awards, one for Duane Clark who was acknowledged as the most improved Exalted Ruler. An award was also given for Phil O’Brien to acknowledge his work as Secretary of the State Association and for the help he gives other lodges in the state. There are 22 Elk Lodges throughout the state, Brown said.
Brown participated in a memorial service for deceased members during the convention.
Elk members also helped put up flags electrical poles along Rt. 27 from the Municipal Building to the intersection of High Street and up High Street to the University of Maine at Farmington, Brown said. This was done with help from BeeLine Cable bucket truck.
Members also helped post flags at Togus Cemetery in Augusta.
