WILTON — Voters at Monday’s annual town meeting will consider budget articles amounting to $3 million, including capital accounts for recreational trails, a retaining wall at Kineowatha Park and building demolition.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 15, in the cafeteria at Academy Hill School. Members of the select board will provide a barbecue at 5:30 p.m.

Among the 49 warrant articles to be considered is one asking to raise $10,000 to start a capital account for improvements to recreational trails, creation of new trails or matching funds for grants for Kineowatha Park or other town land.

Selectpersons recommended $1,000 for the capital fund while the Finance Committee recommended no funding.

Another article asks voters to raise and appropriate $20,000 for a Kineowatha Park Lake Retaining Wall Capital Account. The money will be set aside for repair and rebuilding a lake retaining wall near the swim lesson area. 

Selectpersons recommended raising $1,500 and the Finance Committee recommended no funding.

Voters will also consider raising and appropriating $50,000 to begin a building demolition account. Funds used to address costs for demolition of town-owned buildings deemed unsafe, including the former Forster Mill site.

Selectpersons recommended raising $25,000 and the Finance Committee recommended no funding.

Townspeople will also consider raising and appropriating $475,485 for the Police Department, down from $510,950 approved last year. The difference is mainly attributed to no plans for police vehicle purchases this year.

The Fire Department proposes $113,146 for the the coming year, down from the $130,406, partially due to $20,000 less needed for fire apparatus capital improvements.  

Voters will consider raising $822,350 for the Highway Department, up from the $795,366 approved last year. The Transfer Station and Recycling Department proposes $273,300, up from the $260,520 approved last year.

The sum of $307,000 is requested for capital paving and includes proposed paving projects for Butterfield Road and Main Street in the downtown area as well as reconstructing and paving some sidewalks on Main Street. 

The Wilton Free Public Library proposeed a budget of $106,300. Voters approved $105,395 last year.
