1930 – 2015

FARMINGTON — Suzanne Crory, 85, of Rangeley, died peacefully Friday, June 5, at Orchard Park Rehabilitation & Living Center in Farmington.

Suzanne was born in Port Huron, Mich., on Jan. 3, 1930, a daughter of Allen R. and Elaine (Schell) Locke. She grew up in Michigan, and graduated from high school in 1947 before moving to Boston, where she earned her bachelor’s degree at The Modern School of Fashion. Her first job was at B. Altman Department Store on Fifth Avenue in New York City, where she met her husband, Robert Crory. On July 17, 1954, they were married in Crestwood, N.Y.

In 1964, they moved to Grosse Pointe, Mich., where they raised their loving children, Margery and Robert, and enjoyed most weekends with family and friends, boating on all the Great Lakes as a family. In 1972, they moved to Bath, where Suzanne and her husband managed Sebasco Lodge, an oceanside resort. Three years later, they were able to fulfill their dream of owning their own business and became the proprietors of the Country Club Inn in Rangeley. Sue worked at the inn right up through the fall of 2014.

Suzanne was a hard-working woman who balanced her family, work and friends with grace. She was heavily involved in her children’s lives, being a Brownie leader for the Girl Scouts, active in the PTA and church secretary for many years. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, a member of the Rangeley Congregational Church and an avid golfer, as well as a skilled bowler, participating on two bowling leagues — and even scored a high of 268!

Suzanne was a well-loved individual, whose witty sense of humor and hospitable charm drew in her family, friends and neighbors. Sue believed that we were led in life — and that we should enjoy ourselves and always make the very best of everything and instilled this belief into her family and friends that surrounded her each and every day!

She is survived by her children, Margery Jamison and her husband, Steven, of Rangeley, and Robert Crory and his wife, Lauren, of West Hartford, Conn.; grandchildren, Kate, Krista, Ross, Dana and Dylan; and a sister-in-law, Jeanyne Locke of Kirkland, Wash.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; and a brother, Allen Locke. Tributes and condolences may be shared by visiting her memorial wall at www.wilesrc.com.
