ROXBURY — Selectmen advised the Cemetery Committee on Wednesday night to look into costs of restoring and securing 10 gravestones in the Frye-Mexico Cemetery on Route 120.
Town Clerk Doreen Stinson said Thursday afternoon that age toppled the stones and not vandals. Selectmen learned about the problem at Wednesday night’s board meeting.
In other municipal news, a resident told the board that the base of a utility pole along Main Street that was removed this past winter is poking up out of the ground. Selectman Tim Derouche said he would look into getting it removed.
Stinson said she would soon be placing two tax-acquired vacant lots of less than an acre each up for bid. Both are by Roxbury Pond on Main Street just beyond the boat launch. One is 0.14 of an acre; the other is 0.23 of an acre.
A third tax-acquired property will be offered to its former owner, Stinson said.
Selectmen also learned that the annual New England Forest Rally will return to Bunker Pond Road in July. It will be held July 16-18 with racing July 17 and 18 on area back roads.
The Roxbury All-Terrain Vehicle Riders Club also donated some of its new trail maps to the town.
