Kyle Bourget of Lisbon High School has been named one of eight finalists for the John Winkin Award, presented each year to the outstanding senior baseball player in the state.
The winner of the award will be announced at the Maine Senior All-Star Game on Friday, June 26 at Husson University in Bangor. The trophy will be presented at approximately 6:30 p.m., before first pitch of the Class A/B East vs. West All-Star game. The Class C/D East vs. West game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Bourget recovered from a torn ACL in his right knee, suffered the first Saturday in November in a football playoff, to play the entire season.
As a pitcher, he faced all the Greyhounds’ top opponents, weaving a 5-4 record and leading Lisbon to the No. 4 seed in Class C West and a quarterfinal berth. Highlights included a 2-1 win at St. Dom’s on opening day and a one-hit shutout at Mountain Valley in his final start of the regular season.
He also batted third in Lisbon’s lineup, hitting around the .400 mark. Bourget was a four-year starter who was on the mound for the Greyhounds in the first game of his freshman year.
Bourget plans to play baseball at Husson.
The other finalists are Cam Brochu of Maraanacook, Zach Quintal of Marshwood, Henry Curran of South Portland, Will Bryant of Greely, John Parker of Brunswick, Eric Hoogterp of Old Town and Gage Feeney of Washington.
