BURLINGTON, Mass. — Carl H. Smith, 56, of Mechanic Falls, died Friday, June 12, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass.
He was born on May 9, 1959, in Needham, Mass., a son of Ronald and Carlene (Strout) Smith. He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1978.
On July 5, 1980, Carl married the love of his life, Joni White, in Mechanic Falls where they made their home.
For nearly 30 years, Carl commuted the short distance to Superior Concrete in Auburn where he developed countless friendships.
He loved to watch football, working outside, fishing, but especially the music of the Rolling Stones. He will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing him.
He is survived by his mother, Carlene Shipley and his stepfather, Herbert “Bart” Shipley of Mechanic Falls; his wife, Joni, of Mechanic Falls; his son, Jason Smith of Mechanic Falls; his “very special miracle child,” Angel Smith of Mechanic Falls; his favorite mother-in-law, Mary Ritchie, of Mechanic Falls; grandchildren, Owen and Lilly Smith; a sister, Sharon Sullivan and her husband, Charles, and their daughter, Gillian of Milton, Mass.; sisters-in-law, Donna Taylor and her husband, Jeffrey, of Lisbon Falls and Patty Lagrange of Auburn; brothers-in-law, Mark Duval of Auburn and Marty Duval of Lisbon Falls; an uncle, Karl Smith and his wife, Faye, of Hebron; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Ronald Smith; maternal grandparents, Karl and Delia Strout; paternal grandparents, Ralph and Lillian Smith.
Carl’s family wishes to thank all of Joni’s coworkers at Tim Hortons on Minot Avenue for their support, Dr. Joel Wirth and his staff for their care and kindness, as well as all of those at the Lahey Clinic in Massachusetts.
