LISBON — Police say a  Lewiston man was found dead Thursday in the Androscoggin River near the Worumbo hydro dam.

According to a Lisbon Police Department statement, the body of Peter Bickford, 52, was found at 7:15 a.m. in the downstream fishway gates.

Police said he had not been reported missing.

The body was taken to the Maine Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta where drowning was determined to be the cause of death, police said.

Lisbon police are investigating the death, along with the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit.

Police listed Bickford’s address Pine Street in Lewiston.
